Since her Carnegie Hall debut in 1988, described as “vigorous” by The New York Times, Sevgi Tekin has enjoyed international recognition as a pianist.

A native of Turkey, Ms. Tekin began her musical journey at age two and gave her first recital at seven. Her illustrious career has included performances at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, beginning with her orchestral debut at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York. She has also graced the stages of Merkin Concert Hall, The National Gallery of Art, Bruno Walter Auditorium, the United Nations Auditorium, and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Ms. Tekin has been a featured guest artist at the Mid-Summer Music Festival in Pesaro, Italy, and performed as a soloist with the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra in Brazil.

Ms. Tekin graduated with honors from the Istanbul State Conservatory, where she studied under Gülşin Onay and Kamuran Gündemir. Many of her performances were broadcast on radio and television, showcasing her talent to a wide audience. After winning a prestigious national competition and receiving a scholarship from the Turkish Government, she pursued graduate studies at the Manhattan School of Music, earning her Master of Music degree under Zenon Fishbein in 1987. Ms. Tekin has been honored with numerous distinctions, including awards from the Artists International Distinguished Artist Competition.

After retiring from her career as a concert pianist, Ms. Tekin shifted her focus to teaching, dedicating herself to nurturing her students’ musical growth. With over 30 years of teaching experience, she has worked with students of all ages and skill levels in New York and New Jersey. Now based in Northern Virginia, she continues her passionate commitment to teaching, sharing her wealth of experience and love for music.
